FOSTER HOME PLACEMENTS
NLU foster parents are carefully chosen and intensively as well as continuously trained. Their initial
certification is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to an initial orientation (4 hours), pre-certification training (18 hours), and a Home Study. In Los Angeles County an Adoption Home Study is developed instead, as required of all foster family agency homes certified after 10/01/09. All LA County certified homes in turn become "dually-certified"/Fost-Adopt/"Resource" homes that may choose to not only foster, but also Adopt given the right circumstances. In any event however, NLU certifies only foster parents that it deems capable of providing loving, safe, and clean home environments.
Especialized training is offered to those parents interested in provideing services to children with developmental disabilities.
